Tombo Racing, Never Aging, Always Chasing

Tommy “Tombo” Bolton, hailing from Los Angeles, embarked on his journey in the world of motorcycle drag racing at the young age of 19. This decision marked the beginning of what would become a legendary career in the sport. As an African American in a highly competitive and challenging field, Bolton not only carved out a space for himself but also shattered barriers and set new standards for racers to come. His innate talent, coupled with an unwavering dedication to his craft, quickly distinguished him as a formidable competitor on the track.

Bolton’s career is studded with numerous accolades and achievements, but perhaps none as significant as the milestone he reached in 1990. It was in this year that he etched his name into the annals of motorsport history by becoming the first Black motorcycle drag racer to breach the 200 mph mark. This historic feat was accomplished at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX, a venue situated just over 30 miles outside of Dallas. This monumental achievement was not just a personal victory for Bolton but a moment of pride and inspiration for the entire Black community and motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.

Tombo’s groundbreaking accomplishment in 1990 served as a beacon of possibility, challenging and inspiring a new generation of racers. His legacy extends beyond his speed and records; it lies in his role as a trailblazer who demonstrated that with talent, perseverance, and courage, barriers can be broken, and history can be made. Tommy “Tombo” Bolton remains a celebrated figure in the realm of motorcycle drag racing, his story a testament to the power of resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles and achieving greatness.

Tommy recently discussed with James Pratt (a writer for RiderOK) upcoming events for 2024, including his wildly popular Soul in the Valley drag race/car show/block party weekend coming up in July.
